Kathmandu, Sept 4 – Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed that civil employees must bear a special responsibility to deliver smooth and effective public service, which he said is essential for good governance.
Speaking at a program organized on the 35th establishment day of the Nepal Civil Employees’ Union on Thursday, Deuba noted that the civil service needs reforms in line with democratic values. He emphasized that trade unions can play a vital role in enhancing efficiency and cautioned against repeating past mistakes.
According to Deuba, civil servants can be unified under the leadership of unions, while NC-affiliated organizations have contributed to policy-making. He also urged civil employees to provide constructive suggestions to help formulate actionable policies and laws, adding that good governance remains a key pillar of democracy and development.
The NC President assured that his party will always support the rights of civil servants, while reminding them that honesty, dedication, and professional integrity build public trust in bureaucracy.
On the occasion, Union Acting Chairman Uttam Kumar Katuwal said the federal civil service bill could be finalized by addressing its shortcomings. He noted that the Union has consistently played a creative role in promoting good governance and improving service delivery.
President Deuba also released Karmachari, a book published by the Union, and honored 42 civil servants, including outgoing Chair Gopal Prasad Pokharel and Under Secretary Dipak Regmi.
